Every library story begins with a reason.
The 2026 conference theme, Libraries Because ______, invites you to name yours. There is no single answer to why libraries matter, but rather a powerful range of possibilities. Books and information are probably high on the list, but also access, democracy, community, culture, literacy, belonging, and opportunity.
Libraries are defined by our commitment to these values and the resilience we demonstrate in fighting for them. By naming our specific reasons, we affirm that they guide our decisions, strengthen our advocacy, and connect us to the communities we serve. Individually, these reasons are personal. Together, they form a shared narrative of impact and purpose.
Join us at the 2026 Annual Conference to celebrate the many reasons libraries matter and discover new ones together. The conference is a great opportunity to turn your “because” into action and impact.
Conference Proposals
Our Conference Proposal Submission for our 2026 event is now Closed!
We appreciate all those who submitted. The office is currently compiling submission information for our CE Committee to complete their anonymous review.
Acceptance information will be provided to presenters in May. Applicants who were not selected for this year's event will also receive an email notification.
Proposal submission information including fillable PDF planning documents will be made available for anyone interested in preparing their proposal before they submit it. Please note these fillable PDFs are only planning documents and cannot be used to submit a proposal for the event.
Hotel Accommodations
Hotel Accommodations will be made available on the website at the beginning of June!
NYLA establishes several hotel blocks for our event. Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel accommodations.
Conference Registration
Conference registration rate information for our 2026 event will be available in March. Registration for this year's event will launch in late July.
