NYLA accepts proposals from subject-area experts who wish to conduct Professional Development Webinars throughout the year. This is a rolling admission and all proposals are reviewed by the Continuing Education Committee.

State Education Requirements

Attendance at NYLA’s Annual Conference and other professional development opportunities help meet these requirements, plus we keep track of all your NYLA CE hours and can provide you with the documentation you need to keep your certification.

NYLA CE Calendar

Thanks to the efforts of the 2015-2016 NYLA Continuing Education Committee (CEC), an online calendar has been established to serve as a listing for all library-related professional development opportunities. This calendar is designed to distribute and promote programming, as well as to serve as a planning tool to avoid duplication of effort, and conflicts in scheduling.

NYLA is asking that all those who are responsible for organizing professional development activities submit the details to this calendar for their production process.

Finding the calendar, and linking to it is easy

Adding your programs to the calendar is equally easy – Submit Your Additions To The NYLA Calendar Here

One point of clarification – the calendar is intended to catalog professional development for those working in the library community – it is not intended for patron programs or events targeted at the general public.

Thanks in advance to all those who help this endeavor succeed by submitting events, or sharing and promoting the calendar!

If you have any questions about these offerings, please email [email protected].

Continuing Education Policy

NYLA provides both NYLA and CTLE credit hours for our events and professional development programs. This credit is provided in the form of a certificate with the NYLA logo and a signature by our executive director. Each event and professional development program will provide the amount of credit hour(s) available in their marketing information.

Following an event or program, attendees will be subject to the following processes to obtain their CE information:

For our events, attendees are required to submit an evaluation for each session attended and a CE Request Form. A link to this form will be provided in event communications, event webpages and our conference app. Attendees are given approximately three weeks to submit all required information for their CE certificates. Once that deadline passes, the office will compile all requests and verify evaluations have been submitted. All CE certificates will be uploaded into the corresponding CE Tracker for each attendee who submitted a request. These individuals will be provided an email directing them to their CE Tracker where their certificate can be downloaded.

*Please note attendees who submit a CE request but have an outstanding invoice will not be provided their CE certificate until their invoice is paid in full. It is the attendee’s responsibility to contact the office at [email protected] with any follow up information regarding their CE hours.

For our professional development programs including webinars, Developing Leaders Program, Library Skills Program, etc., participants will be provided an evaluation of the program. Once completed, the NYLA staff will provide CE hour certificates to participants in the format included in program materials.

Attendees who wish to submit for event continuing education have one (1) year from the date of the event to provide all required information to receive their CE. Following a year, NYLA will be unable to provide CE. Credit from NYLA is lid for five years following the date of the event.

CREDIT PRIOR TO 2023

In January of 2024, NYLA launched a new member database. All NYLA contacts were notified of this transition via email communications that were sent out beginning in the summer of 2023. Members were encouraged to screenshot all current CE information from their CE folder in their existing  member profile as the office was unable to bring any past member data with us. At this time NYLA will no longer be able to provide CE before 2023. Questions can be emailed to [email protected]
