What to Expect From an OSC Audit

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM (1.5 CE Contact Hours)

What can you expect if your library is selected to be audited by the Office of the State Comptroller?  This session will familiarize you with the entire audit process from its early stages to final report.  Learn what the auditors are looking for, the professional standards they follow, and your role in the process.  In an effort to help you avoid similar circumstances and take corrective action before an audit, there will also be a discussion of common findings and best practice recommendations.

Jay Phillips is an Associate Examiner in OSC’s Division of Local Government and School Accountability. He has been with the Division since 2008. In 2016, he joined the Local Official Training Unit, where his duties include presenting at local government conferences and at OSC’s accounting schools and webinars.
Jay’s previous responsibilities with OSC include reviewing Annual Financial Reports for municipalities, school districts and public authorities. He also spent two years as a field examiner reviewing local government operations.
Since being promoted in 2012, Jay has been involved with a number of major initiatives, including the State’s property tax cap and tax freeze programs and the roll-out of OSC’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System.
Jay graduated with honors from the University at Albany with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

There is no fee to participate in this program. Pre-registration is required.

Increasing Circulation @ Your Library

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM (1.5 CE Contact Hour)

With circulation on the decline in a majority of libraries in the country ten member libraries of the Mid-Hudson Library System libraries embarked on an experiment to find the answers to one of the most vexing question facing libraries today – how do we increase circulation? Five library directors who saw their circulation rise over the past three years were matched with five directors who were watching circ plummet. Find out what happened next…

Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, MLS, is the Coordinator for Library Sustainability at the Mid-Hudson Library System in New York where she has assisted 66 public libraries in the areas of governance, management, funding and facilities since 1998. Rebekkah is a Library Journal Mover & Shaker and the author of a number of publications, including the Handbook for New Public Library Directors in New York State.

There is no fee to participate in this program. Pre-registration is required.
