Candidate for Councilor-at-Large (Representing a Public Library) (2021-24)
Library Director, Castleton Public Library
Libraries face a number of challenges today, as we help our communities recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, confront a growing digital divide, reckon with systemic racism in our organizations and profession, and strive for sustainability in our operations. We need to draw on the collective wisdom of the talented, creative library workers throughout the state to address these issues, and others, as we move forward. All of us -- whether we are in academic, public, school, or special libraries -- can learn from one another, accomplish more, and be more effective advocates if we work together.
I have served as the Director of the Castleton Public Library in Rensselaer County for the past six years. I have found the world of public libraries to be a perfect fit for me, after several happy years working in archives and special libraries. I have been active on several committees in my library system, and enjoy working with others to identify approaches and initiatives that can help us better serve our communities.
If elected to serve as a Councilor-at-Large representing public libraries, I will aim to bring forward the perspectives and voices of public libraries of all sizes and types, and will do my best to assure that NYLA is working to be the best resource it can be for your library. I pledge to bring enthusiasm, empathy, and care to all of my work as your representative.
Thank you for your consideration. No matter which candidate you support for the Councilor-at-Large position, please vote and make sure your voice is heard!
