The Berne Public Library has moved to a new location, increasing library space from 800 square feet to 2300 square feet plus a community room. Thanks to NYLA for working with our legislators to pass the Library Construction Grant Program that helped make this new library a reality.

Sally Carmer, Director of Administrative Services, retired from the Onondaga County Public Library.

Sara Dallas had an article published in the September/October 2013 issue of Public Libraries, the official magazine of the Public Library Association. The article was entitled, “Information at Their Fingertips: New York Library Trustees Online.”

Edward Elsner, a librarian at the Oswego Public Library, created a video featuring glass plate photographs by Ella Wheeler. The photographs show Oswego, New York as it was in 1900-1910. The video also features the music of the Heftone Banjo Orchestra playing the 1905 hit, "In My Merry Oldsmobile".

Fayetteville Free Library is Negotiating Reality: Adventures in 3D

Muriel Feldshuh invites you to visit The Children's Museum of South Dakota to see her Traveling Exhibit Celebrating Children's Books. Her six large exciting quilts containing the artwork of over 165 children's book illustrators and quotes from authors will be on exhibit from January 14 - March 10, 2014.  

Tara Ferretti recently joined the Somers Library as a Teen Librarian Intern.  Tara has been employed by the Somers Library since 2010, when she began her career as a circulation clerk.  She is studying for her MLIS degree at Long Island University and plans to graduate soon.  

Kathleen Gundrum, formerly with NYLINK, was appointed the Program and Communications Manager of the Capital District Library Council.

Ted Gutmann, Emma Clark Library Director, along with Robert Johnson, Manager of Information and Technology Services, presented at the October 2013 Internet Librarian Conference held in Monterey, California. Their program featured mobile library applications and the steps necessary to design and develop an effective library app.  They also discussed the pros, cons, and tips for a digital extension of library services.

The Hauppauge Public Library has promoted Joanne Adam to Assistant Library Director.

Brian Martin has retired as a librarian for 34 years. His career included positions at the Buffalo Courier Express, the New York Public Library, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library and NYS Dept. Of Corrections.

Wonda Miller was promoted to Head of Adult Services at the Hauppauge Public Library.

Kim Myers of The College at Brockport was awarded a $1500 Special Project Grant from the ASLS/NY3Rs at the 2013 NYLA Conference. The grant allowed her to attend a three day Scholarly Publishing Certification Course, with other repository managers from across the United States.

The Port Washington Public Library received a $25,000 grant from Senator Jack Martins to renovate the Library's media center.

The Port Washington Public Library has been named a 5-Star Library once again by The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service 2013. This year, 7,573 public libraries were rated and 263 libraries received three, four or five star designations. Port Washington is one of only 86 libraries nationally to receive the highest rating of five stars.
Benjamin Reid, Director of Rose Memorial Library, has accepted a new position as the Director of the Huron Public Library in Huron, OH.

Kai Alexis Smith, a May 2013 Pratt Institute graduate, started at the CUNY Graduate Center Library in September. . Smith was also selected to be in the 2014 class of ALA's Emerging Leaders.

Margaret Waite retired as the Director of the North Tonawanda Public Library in August after nine years in the post and about 36 total years at the facility in various capacities.

Christine Walker retired as Assistant Director of the Capital District Library Council in July 2013 after more than 12 years of service.

Mary Anne Waltz, Project Manager and Trainer for the NYLA Digital Literacy program, spoke at the recent Internet Librarian conference in Monterey, CA. Her presentation detailed the history and progress of the Digital Literacy project and included lessons learned.

Judith Wines, Director of the Altamont Free Library, has been appointed First Year Director of the NYLA Public Library Section. Judith received the Mary Bobinski Innovative Public Library Director Award and the L. Marion Moshier/Asa Wynkoop Award for Distinguished Librarianship at the NYLA Annual Conference in 2013.

Jill Wylie was promoted to full-time Library Trainee at the Hauppauge Public Library.
