From the President

“Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere”
… Albert Einstein
At this spring’s YSS conference (it was great!), one of the conference coordinators announced the 2013 NYLA Conference by having attendees guess imaginative quote attributions. I hadn’t realized there were so many quotes on creativity and imagination, and I thought it was a wonderful introduction for the upcoming fall conference. Since then, the NYLA conference program has been published and it highlights the imaginative efforts and energies that emerged from the planning process. I congratulate the section, roundtable and other conference planners, as well as NYLA staff for coordinating an exciting event.
For me, the most challenging aspect will be in deciding which sessions to attend. I am fascinated with learning more about The Human Library and the possibility of bringing this creative idea back to my library with a tweak or two. I am interested in the National Museum of Play at the Strong, which will be presented at the Sparking Imagination through Special Libraries session – a museum of play – really cool! And of course, who wouldn’t want to attend sessions with provocative titles such as Speed Mentoring!, YOUmedia: Cypher @ Teen Central and Librarians as Political Animals. Too many choices, only one session at a time…! I know for sure I will not miss the Peruvian penguins at the NYLA-Dewey Scholarship Fund Event @ the Aquarium of Niagara on Thursday evening, would love to see you there as well.
So if you haven’t had a chance to read the conference program, take a look and let your imagination run wild and prepare for a delightful conference.
