Eminent names from the world of books will come together at The East Hampton Library’s 8th Annual Authors Night

event on Saturday, August 11th. Beginning in 2005 with a handful of

dinners and a few hundred attendees, Authors Night has grown to be the premier literary event of the Hamptons with over 125 authors and more than 1,500 people in attendance. Since its inception, Authors Night has attracted a wide range of literary talent across all genres, including Pulitzer and Nobel prize winners, Poet Laureates, TV and film personalities and New York Times best-selling authors.

Authors Night Founding Chairs Alec Baldwin and Barbara Goldsmith, along with Honorary Co-Chairs David Baldacci, Robert A. Caro, Dick Cavett, Lynn Sherr, and Dava Sobel will be joined by an impressive roster of locally and nationally known writers. Featured authors include Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Harlan Coben, Tom Colicchio, Philip Galanes, Oz Garcia, Peter Kaminsky, Robert Klein, Hilary Knight, Lucette Lagnado, Katie Lee, Robert Lipsyte, Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, Tinsley Mortimer, Andrew Ross Sorkin – and many more.

The event begins with a book signing cocktail reception from 5pm – 7:30pm.  Guest purchase tickets for $100 to attend the reception.  At the outdoor tented book signing cocktail reception, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and wine and have the opportunity to meet and mingle with the authors, buy their books and have them personally inscribed. The most recent titles for each author will be available for purchase at the event. Authors will be seated under the tent alphabetically, so attendees will be able to easily seek out their favorites. All books are donated by the publishing houses, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Library rary. At the 2011 event, the library sold more than 3,000 books at th e cocktail reception.

Immediately following the book signing reception, the East End’s largest simultaneous dinner party will take place with more than 500 guests attending one of the Authors Night dinners hosted at private area homes, each featuring one of the guest authors. Approximately 30 of the authors will be hosted as the Guests of Honor, at dinner parties. Guests have the chance to review the list of dinner parties and authors, and make three choices of parties they wish to attend. They are then notified in advance which dinner they will be attending. Dinner guests automatically receive an entry ticket to the Authors Reception as well. Dinner tickets range from $250 - $2,500, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Library.

Authors Night has grown into an amazing event.  The net profit to the East Hampton Library is now more than $200,000 per year.  The success of this event would not be possible without the generous publishers that donate the books, the authors who volunteer their time at the event, the library staff, board and volunteers that spend numerous hours working on the event and most importantly the hundreds guests love authors, books and reading.
