Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library
Get to Know Rebecca Fuss
How did you first get involved with NYLA?
Lisa Wemett of Friends of Libraries Section invited me to join the FLS board.
What do you wish people knew about NYLA?
What a strong voice it is for the library community. In one day alone, over 1000 NYLA members went to Albany and advocated for increased library funding to over 75 percent of our state legislators!
What is the best part of being on NYLA Council (or NYLA in general)?
Library love! Meeting others with enthusiasm for libraries as a critical part of their communities, willing to share their best ideas and success stories.
What do you do when you aren’t being a librarian?
Well, I'm not a librarian - I'm not that smart. I love to bicycle and sing. I have bicycled to Toronto and sung at Carnegie Hall, two highlights of my life.
What advice would you give to a librarian who is just starting out?
Since I'm not a librarian, I'll not presume to have any advice for them.
What is your favorite thing about your local library?
Every day I learn about some new amazing thing happening at the Rochester Public Library, either Central or one of the ten neighborhood branches. Right now I'm working on a proposal to create a neighborhood-based Story Walk in front on one of our branches, combining children's fitness and literacy.
Coffee or Tea? Why?
coffee on weekdays, Darjeeling tea on weekends, preferably with the crossword puzzle
Cats or Dogs? Why?
I like other people's cats and dogs equally.
Cardigans - Yes or No? Why?
Yes, absolutely! They help get us through the long upstate New York winters.
eBook or Print? Why?
Print. Why ruin my eyes prematurely?
Dewey or LOC? Why?
Sorry, I don't even know what those mean. Do-we have to lock in an answer?
And finally, the most important question....what is your favorite dessert?
Now you've made me hungry for a big slice of cherry pie with vanilla ice cream - and it's not even my birthday.
