Get to Know Jessica Clemons
How did you first get involved with NYLA?
I was asked to deliver a presentation at the 125th anniversary conference in Lake Placid
What do you wish people knew about NYLA?
NYLA is a great, local organization to learn about the breadth of librarianship and network with other professionals who you may not otherwise be able to meet.
What is the best part of being on NYLA Council (or NYLA in general)?
I enjoy the organizational structure and learning about the processes behind initiatives. It is challenging to keep members informed because of the refreshing turnover and changes so process becomes even more important.
What do you do when you aren’t being a librarian?
I enjoy fermenting foods, such as kefier, kombucha, and sauerkraut.
What advice would you give to a librarian who is just starting out?
Keep your head up and look towards the future of the profession. Keep your eyes open for transferable skills that will set you apart from the competition.
What is your favorite thing about your local library?
It is a great place to take my children.
Coffee or Tea? Why?
Coffee with cream. At this point it is sort of like my daily ceremony.
Cats or Dogs? Why?
I have both and love them both.
Cardigans - Yes or No? Why?
eBook or Print? Why?
ebooks for leisure, print for business. I feel like print makes me pay closer attention to the content.
Dewey or LOC? Why?
I'm in an academic library so I have to say LOC.
And finally, the most important question....what is your favorite dessert?
Tough decision! Really lemony lemon bars is something that I always enjoy.
