Suffolk County Library Association (SLCA) Update

Young Adult Services Division (YASD)

YASD would like to welcome their 2017 YASD Board members- Rebecca Goldstein- Vice President, Rosemary Martilotta- Secretary, Colleen Hutchens- Treasurer, Kristen Brewi- Webmaster, and Michele Cayea- Fran Romer Member at Large.  
YASD held its annual December Luncheon at the Outerbanks Restaurant in Riverhead.  The speaker was Nova Ren Suma, author of The Walls Around Us, 17 and Gone, Imaginary Girls and more.  There was a great selection of raffles and the winners of the Teen Librarian Awards were announced: Most Creative Program- Zombie Survival Night by Michelle Kenney and Sara Fade (Middle Country Public Library), Most Successful Program- Teen Technology Club by James Matias (Middle Country Public Library), Best Display- Banned Books Display by Kristie Korade (Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library), Best Community Service Program- Green Teens (Middle Country Public Library).
A YASD Town Hall meeting was held at Suffolk County Cooperative Library System on January 12.  Participants were able to meet the new Board members and offer program suggestions for 2017.

Suffolk County Library Access

HATLO (Healthcare Awareness through Library Outreach) will hold its next meeting on January 25 at Suffolk Cooperative Library System.  The focus of this committee is to provide the most up-to-date health care and health literacy resources to patrons throughout Suffolk County, through their public library
