Consultants Give Back: Open Office Hours

As a value-added bonus to the 2016 NYLA Annual Conference, a select number of library industry experts have volunteered their time to offer brief (20 minute) consultation sessions.

These 'office hours' will take place on:

at the Saratoga Hilton in Saratoga Springs, NY.

With over twenty years' experience Paul is an accomplished designer, presenter, and research specialist. His design process
incorporates diligent information gathering and creative insight to produce a thorough and precise building design, which places particular
emphasis on reflecting the community in which it is located. He is currently a Trustee for the Southern Adirondack Library System along with several other professional and civic organizations, and a Principal of Butler Rowland Mays Architects, LLP, a library design firm.

Mike Neppl: Budget Vote Campaigns

These session are intended for members of the library community to seek insights from NYLA's Director of Government Relations and Advocacy on effective strategies for managing your local budget vote.

Ellen Bach & Robert Schofield: Legal Issues

Friday, November 4,  10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Ellen Bach is an attorney with Whiteman, Osterman and Hanna LLP of Albany, New York.   Ms. Bach has provided a full range of legal services to libraries and library systems across the State for more than a decade.  She has successfully litigated on behalf of libraries in several notable cases involving legal issues of first impression, developing favorable precedent enhancing libraries’ ability to obtain stable, increased public funding.  In addition, on a daily basis she works with libraries on personnel, construction, policy, litigation and legislative matters critical to providing library services.

Robert Schofield is a partner in Whiteman Osterman & Hanna’s Labor and Employment Law, Education, and Litigation, Arbitration and Mediation Practice Groups.  His areas of expertise include public sector labor and employment issues, education law, and general litigation, as well as State Court practice.  Mr. Schofield has been with Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP since 2000.

FLS Section Officers: Focus on Friends of Libraries

Lisa C. Wemett, MSLS, is Immediate Past President of the Friends of Libraries Section.  After more than 30 years working in public libraries, Lisa retired in 2009 from the Webster Public Library, located in a suburb of Rochester, where she was the assistant director.  For 9½ years, Lisa served as staff advisor to the Friends of WPL, helping the organization grow their membership numbers substantially and securing their 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS.  Lisa has extensive background in training and development for staff and volunteers, program planning, marketing, and supervision of personnel.  In 2016, she has presented regional workshops in NYS for FLS on starting a Friends group and how to sustain and grow existing groups.

Randall Enos is President Emeritus for the Friends of Libraries Section and has served continuously in various capacities on the Board since the inception of the group when it was formed as the Empire Friends Roundtable in 1992.  He is the liaison with Friends groups in member libraries at the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS).  Randy is also involved with the Friends of Middletown Thrall Library, Inc. and has served in many capacities on the Board for that group including as President.  Randy has worked as the Youth Services Consultant with RCLS for over 30 years.
