Sustainability Initiative (SI) Update
Submitted by Rebekkah Smith Aldrich and Matthew Bollerman, Co-Chairs, Sustainability Initiative Committee
Greetings. The Sustainability Initiative Committee is busy working on our rollout of tools at this years NYLA conference. These tools can help anyone understand the issue and then take action to make their library and community they serve more resilient and able to bring new, energetic life to it. It has been an exciting time for the Committee.
The first place to find out more, and I mean a lot more, about this topic is to attend our continuing education session “Libraries: A Powerful Platform for Change” on Wednesday, November 2, 10 am to 5 pm, a preview video is here.
Each registrant to the conference will be receiving a Road Map. This small booklet will introduce the concepts of sustainability, the triple bottom line and more. With room to take notes, checklists and thought provoking questions, this 100% recycled paper booklet with soy ink will help collect your thoughts, questions and next steps as you enjoy the conference and beyond.
If you would like to speak to a Sustainability Initiative Committee member, stop by our booth. There will always be a member of our group to speak to, coloring and the opportunity to take a pledge and receive special recognition for doing so. If you are curious about our Initiative or have specific questions about why to engage in this work, or how to begin, please stop by.
Friday, November 4 at 11 am will be the session, “Sustainability Initiative: Where are We Going?” Our hope is to get feedback on the tools we have released and what else is needed by the library community to help all libraries endure, bounce back from disruption and create new energetic life to those they serve.
On behalf of the committee members of the Sustainability Initiative, we welcome you to learn more about our work at conference and embrace the theme, “Strong. Strategic. Sustainable.”
