Reference & Adult Services Section (RASS) Update

Submitted by Julia Schult, RASS President

The RASS Board announces a major project for the next year, and we need YOUR help!  The Reference and Adult Services Section has been around for many years. There have been many changes in library services over those years, we want to explore how this NYLA section can best serve librarians and the profession. We will be looking for input at NYLA Annual and at various venues throughout the state over the next year. We will be asking what services you think fall under "Reference" and "Adult Services", and whether we should broaden, or shrink, or redirect our efforts to serve our members. Example: the MakerSpace movement has brought new services to libraries or expanded existing services. Some are Adult Services, but some are YA or Children's, and many are for mixed age groups.

Should this section broaden from RASS (covering Adult Services) to RLSS (Reference & Library Services)? Or RALPS - Reference And Library Programs Section? or RSTAAS - Reference and Services To All Ages Section? (Okay, that last one may be a bit far fetched...) Look for our booth at NYLA Conference, and over the next year watch for opportunities to contribute your thoughts around the state and online!
