Marcellus Meet Up

In conjunction with its August 15 board meeting, FLS hosted the second annual Friends of Libraries Meet-Up at the beautiful new Marcellus Free Library. This opportunity for Friends groups to get together and share ideas was attended by thirty one people, twenty-two of whom were representatives from eight public libraries is five library systems. Topics covered included: how Friends Boards function/operate, fund raising ideas, membership and engaging volunteers, library books stores and incorporation and insurance needs of Friends groups. Thanks to Audrey Kearney and Paulette Quinn of the Friends of Marcellus Free Library for being such wonderful hosts for both the board meeting and the meet-up.

Dewey Fellowship Winner

The FLS Board is proud to announce our first Dewey Fellowship has been awarded to Kitty Bressington. Kitty is the President of the Friends of the Avon Free Library which she helped revitalize three years ago after the organization had been dormant for more than ten years. The Lake Placid Foundation’s generosity allows Dewey Fellows to attend the full NYLA Annual Conference. If you see Kitty in Saratoga
Springs, please congratulate her and thank her for her dedication to the Friends of the Avon Free Library.
