Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA) Update

Registration is open for the SCLA Annual Dinner and Meeting to be held at The Meadow Club in Port Jefferson Station on Thursday, November 10 from 6 – 10 pm.
The Suffolk County Legislative Breakfast was held at the newly renovated Longwood Public Library on Friday September 16. Following a tasty breakfast, several legislators spoke briefly to a large audience of administrators and library staff from all over Suffolk County.
The CATS TIF committee and the RASD Electronic Resources committee presented a joint program at the Islip Library on Thursday, September 8. Librarian Chris DeCristofaro from the Sachem Library demonstrated their new 3D scanner – a top-recommended brand. He also arranged for a Skype session with Form Labs, a 3D printer company doing very interesting work. The meeting ended with a round-table focusing on our commonalities and shared expectations, ideas for future programs for all age group and how we can encourage and inspire each other.
The RASD Annual Dinner was held on September 28 at the Babylon Carriage House. The speaker was Doctor Frank Sorrentino who talked about the powers of the American Presidency and how Presidents have changed the office.
SSD continues to present computer training for Library Staffers, offering classes in Intermediate and Advanced Excel this Fall. They are planning their Annual Safety Fair to be held in October.
Christopher Schumaker from YALSA will discuss "The Future of Library Services for and with Teens: A Call to Action" on October 13. Their November meeting will feature a discussion of alternative social media for marketing and library programs. The YASD Luncheon will be held on December 1 at the Outerbanks Restaurant in Riverhead. The speaker will be author Nova Ren Suma.
