Academic and Special Libraries (ASLS) Section

Submitted by Marcy Strong, ASLS President

Conference registration is now open for the Academic Librarians conference, set for July 14-15 at Syracuse University.  This year the conference includes the option of two pre-conferences, one on the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy and the other on Digital Preservation Basics. Keynote speakers include Jill Hurst-Wahl and Steven Bell, as well as two panels on open educational resources and institutional repositories. The Syracuse iSchool will be hosting the reception with tours of the iSchool, Maker Space, and Bird Library’s Special Collection available during the reception.

NYLA conference programming is coming together with lots of co-sponsorships with other sections. Programs include managing data, open access, open educational resources, fundraising, e-resource license management, and a program profiling several special libraries around the state. We hope to do an offsite membership meeting/reception this year.

ASLS is also trying to better collaborate with other regional academic library groups. Board members participated in the spring meeting of the Upstate New York chapter of the Special Libraries Association in April and will also be in attendance at the ENY/ACRL Digital Scholarship event in May.
