Sustainability at the  J.Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah

The NYLA SI would like to highlight all types of libraries in and outside of NY that are making sustainable efforts.

This week’s exemplar sustainable library is the J.Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah. A Green Committee was created in 2008 consisting of library faculty and staff to employ the green initiatives outlined in the library’s Green Task Force Report.  Since the start of this committee, they have aligned themselves with the campus Sustainability Office and student environmental groups. The library has instituted many green building design elements some of which include low-flush toilets, low gas emission furniture, and a rooftop garden!  The J. Willard Marriott Library also has a wonderful recycling program.

Take a look at the Greening the Marriott Library website to see all that they have done and become inspired!
