Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA) Update

The PLDA Golf Outing, Wine Tour and Banquet, held September 24 at the Great Rock Golf Club in Wading River gave attendees the opportunity to network in a relaxed setting with colleagues, directors, trustees and vendors. Funds raised support the New Yorkers for Better Libraries PAC. After meeting at the Golf Club for lunch, the golfers teed off and a full coach bus headed for a tour of three Long Island wineries. The game and tour were followed by dinner at the Golf Club.
The RASD Health Concerns Breakfast was held on October 28 at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. Speakers discussed PTSD which is found in people of all ages who have had traumatic events. The speakers were Dr. Keith Shebairo, Psychiatrist and Program Director of the PTSD residential unit at Northport VA Medical Center and Dr. Jenna L Taglienti, Associate Director of the psychiatry residency program at Stony Brook.
The Annual RASD Dinner was held on September 30 at Gallo Restaurant in Patchogue. The guest speaker was Kimberly Rae Miller, the local author of Coming Clean: A Memoir.
The Annual SCLA Dinner and Meeting was held at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook on November 19. 140 people enjoyed dinner and dancing. The SCLA President’s Award, SCLA scholarship, continuing education and marketing award winners were announced.
The CATS Division Annual Meeting will be held on December 9 at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. The speaker is Brian Pickman, Director of Strategic Innovation at the Evolve Project. He will lead a hands-on workshop on building environments that allow creativity through the use of innovative technology.
The YASD Annual Luncheon and Author Visit will be held at 360 Taiko Sushi in Patchogue on December 17, and will feature speaker Joe Kelly, author of I Kill Giants. Mr. Kelly has written for both Marvel and DC Comics.
The DASL Annual Meeting will be held at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale on December 11. Registration includes lunch and a tour of the museum.
