NYLA Membership Adopts New By-laws

At the annual Conference, the NYLA membership adopted a new set of By-laws for the Association.  Earlier in the year, the NYLA Council charged the Council’s Executive Board with reviewing and updating NYLA’s By-laws to ensure compliance with the Nonprofit Revitalization Act of 2013 (NPRA) and update the organization’s guiding document to better reflect our current mission and governance structure.

The Executive Board was aided in their mission by NYLA Executive Director Jeremy Johannesen and Michael Neppl, Director of Advocacy and Government Relations.  Guidance also came from the New York State Council of Nonprofits, who was consulted during the process.

The NYLA Council, in accordance with Article XXII of the NYLA By-laws, voted to recommend the adoption of these proposed amendments, and sent them to the NYLA Membership for ratification during the annual meeting.  This meeting took place on October 22, 2015 in Lake Placid, NY at the annual NYLA Conference.  The By-laws were passed by the members present, and are available to all who are interested on the NYLA website.
