ALA Midwinter NYLA Meetup

Sue Bartle, Jeremy Johannesen, Susan Polos and Dewey Scholarship winner Ashley Smolinski

New Yorkers who were in Philadelphia for the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting in January took it nickname, City of Brotherly Love, to heart.  At least 70 New Yorkers took some time out of their busy meeting schedule to show their love for the Empire State at the NYLA Meetup.  The event was held at the Loews Hotel high above the city that offered magnificent views of the Philadelphia skyline.

All types of libraries and all sections of the state were represented. Lisa Kropp, Youth Services Coordinator at Suffolk Cooperative Library System; Susan Bartle, Erie 2 BOCES School Library System Coordinator; Sue Polos, Bedford Schools & member of this year’s Newbery Committee and Fred Gitner, Assistant Director, New Americans Program and International Relations Queens Library, were just a few of the NYLA members who joined NYLA Councilmembers Sara Kelly Johns (President), Jeremy Johannesen (Executive Director), Rocco Staino (ALA Chapter Councilor), Sue Considine (Councilor-at-large), and Karen Sperrazza (SSL President) for some spirited conversation.
