Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish Library’s former director, Carol Donick, has been appointed the new Director of the Kent Public Library.

Claudia Depkin, Director of the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library, has been appointed by the New York State Board of Regents to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries. The term for Ms. Depkin will be from January 1, 2014 until September 30, 2018.  

Rhoda Gushue, the Executive Director of the Bedford Hills Free Library, has retired.

Hampton Bays Public Library received the 2013 Top Fundraiser Award from The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. The Library facilitates several programs a year for the shelter for both children and teens. Click here for more information.

Rachel Jaffe, Metadata/Catalog Librarian at the Binghamton University Libraries, has accepted the position Metadata Librarian at the University of California, Santa Cruz and will be returning to the West Coast at the end of February.

Paige Jaeger and Mary Ratzer co-authored their first book, Rx for the Common Core Toolkit for Implementing Inquiry Learning

Judy Kamilhor is the new Coordinator, Older Adult Services at the Brooklyn Public Library.

Ben Lainhart, former Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Sidney Memorial Public Library, has been appointed the Assistant Director/Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Wood Association Library.

William Langham, Director of the Orangeburg Library, is retiring in February 2014, after seven years of service.

Robert Loftus, part-time Technology and Network Support Librarian at the Baldwinsville Public Library, has been appointed to the position full time.

Jen McCreery has been appointed the Interim Director of the Alice Curtis Desmond and Hamilton Fish Library.

Carol Nersinger, Executive Director of the Albany Public Library, has announced that she will retire. During Nersinger’s tenure at the Albany Public Library, she oversaw the opening of five new and renovated branch libraries in the Arbor Hill/West Hill, New Scotland, Delaware, South End, and Pine Hills neighborhoods. Several of the buildings won design awards and the whole project was lauded as a valuable community resource.

Lisa Neuman has joined the staff of the Albany Public Library as a full-time youth services librarian. Her work will concentrate on after school STEM programming for tweens & teens.  

Colleen Sadowski, the Instructional Director of School Library System and Media Services at the Rochester City School District, has been appointed by the New York State Board of Regents to the Regents Advisory Council on Libraries. The term for Ms. Sadowski will be from January 1, 2014 until September 30, 2018.  

The Cortland Free Library’s new director is Jacalyn Spoon who developed the Adelson Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Tim Wiles, former Director of Research and Public Services Librarian for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, is the new Director of the Guilderland Public Library.

Kelly L. Wilson, librarian at Canton Central School, is the new Director of the St. Lawrence-Lewis School Library System.
 
Haruko Yamauchi, a recent MLS graduate of Queens College, joined the faculty at Hostos Community College (CUNY) in September. As Librarian and Liaison to College Transition Programs, she will focus on outreach, instruction, and reference.

Kay Zaharis retired as Director of the Cortland Free Library after a 10 year period which included automating the library and overseeing over $2 million dollars in renovations and upgrades.
