Elizabeth (Liz) King
Candidate for Councilor-at-Large (Representing an Academic/Special Library) (2021-24)
Associate Director, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
If elected for NYLA's Councilor-at-Large position representing academic and special libraries, I will work towards increased awareness of important trends and specialized needs of academic and special libraries. This awareness is needed at the following levels: Member, organizational, and community. One of my primary goals will be to increase cooperation and communication between public, school, academic and special libraries. While we may serve different patron types, our values, goals, and priorities often overlap.
NYLA would benefit from an increase in academic membership; my experience in outreach, marketing, and building collaborative communities would lend itself to strengthening this cohort. My background in libraries spans public, special, and academic, and I have always had rewarding relationships with librarians from all types of libraries. I would be honored to represent academic and special libraries as Councilor-at-Large, and I thank you for your consideration
