2014 October e-Bulletin President’s Report, from Sara Kelly Johns
Don’t Stop Believin’ As I start writing this, my last newsletter column, I am just back from the play Rock of Ages--full of rock songs from the 80’s--and the finale (spoiler alert) is Journey’s 1981 song, “Don’t Stop Believin’.” As the cast belted it out, I turned to my husband and said, “That really is NYLA’s anthem! We DON’T stop believing!” He gave me one of those looks, but by this time, he knew just what I mean.

Mountain Top Library Opens New Facility
The community formerly served by the Haines Falls Library has both a new library and a name. The library now has 446% more usable space after the adaptive reuse of the former Marian Center in Tannerville, NY. The library is now ADA compliant and provides ample community meeting space for the first time in the library's history.

Garret Decker Hasbrouck Gets Make-Over Thanks to State Grant
The Stone Ridge Library has been awarded a 2014 Greater Hudson Heritage Conservation Treatment Grant for the restoration of a portrait of Garret Decker Hasbrouck, oil on canvas, painted by Francesco Anelli in 1840. The painting, measuring 70 ¾” x 54 ½” is a companion piece to the portrait of Julia Lawrence Hasbrouck, Garret’s wife, which underwent conservation treatment with funding from the Greater Hudson Heritage Network’s 2012 grant.

Eight New York Library Buildings Receive National Recognition
Eight of the 26 libraries recognized by the American Library Association for library design were from New York State specifically New York City. The Library Showcase is the association’s annual celebration of new or renovated libraries and the Library Interior Design Award is a biennial award that recognizes excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function, and satisfaction of the client’s objective.
