Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, MLS, is the Coordinator for Library Sustainability at the Mid-Hudson Library System in New York where she has assisted 66 member libraries in the areas of governance, management, funding and facilities since 1998. Rebekkah is a Library Journal Mover & Shaker and the author of a number of publications, including the Handbook for New Public Library Directors in New York State. An active member of the New York Library Association (NYLA), Rebekkah currently serves as a Councilor-at-Large and a member of the Legislative Committee. Rebekkah is also a past president of the Leadership & Management Section (LAMS) of NYLA.

We'll review the entire program and get down to details on important steps you can begin to take right now to build your base of support. We all know--that's what it's all about.

Libby Post, President of Communication Services, helped 28 out of 30 libraries in the Mid-Hudson Library System win their referendum campaigns in 2005-06 through her innovative Library Campaign Training Institute. MHLS hired Post for its “Get to Yes” project. A seasoned campaign consultant, Post also has over 20 years of experience in not for profit branding, marketing, public relations and fund raising. She is now taking her electoral campaign experience and putting it to work for libraries and library systems.

A plated lunch will be also available before the NYLA Institute programs from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at the additional cost of $26. Please register via the online registration form. (see below)

David Vinjamuri writes the “Brand Truth” column online for Forbes. David is also Adjunct Instructor of Marketing at New York University and the founder of ThirdWay Brand Trainers, a leading brand marketing training company whose clients have included American Express, Starwood Hotels, The Corporate Executive Board, Gen Re, Ingram Micro and the U.S. Army. David has over 22 years of marketing and management experience. He started his marketing career at Johnson & Johnson. As a Brand Manager there, David twice received the Johnson & Johnson Achievement Award and successfully launched a new OTC consumer product (Uristat®) from concept to market in 11 months. David worked in field marketing for Coca-Cola, ran promotions for DoubleClick and was VP of marketing for two other consumer companies before founding ThirdWay Brand Trainers in 2004. David graduated from Swarthmore College with High Honors and from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy as a Citicorp-Walter Wriston Fellow. David studied marketing and manufacturing at Harvard Business School.
David writes and speaks frequently on marketing. He has been quoted as an expert on brands in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, BusinessWeek, and Investor’s Business Daily. In addition to writing online for Forbes, David has contributed to both BrandWeek and Advertising Age. He has appeared on television as a brand expert on Fox Business News, Bloomberg TV and MSNBC. David has advised the German pharmaceutical industry and one of the leading motion picture studios in Bollywood on brands and social media. David’s book: Accidental Branding: How Ordinary People Build Extraordinary Brands, has been translated into both Japanese and Vietnamese, and Publisher’s Weekly called it “compelling” with “a lively flavor that goes down better than any list of dry strategies.” David is also the author of the bestselling thriller “Operator.”

About the New Yorkers for Better Libraries PAC
New Yorkers for Better Libraries Political Action Committee (NYLIBS-PAC) was formed in 2003 by library leaders who believe in the importance of campaign contributions as part of a multi-faceted legislative strategy designed to increase state aid to libraries and library systems.
The mission of the New Yorkers for Better Libraries PAC is to provide financial support to legislators and candidates for state office who are in a position to effectively champion libraries. Last year, we contributed over $30,000 to those in Albany who can help libraries. A complete list of recipients is included on the NYLIBS-PAC website. These contributions have brought us access to decision-makers and have signaled a seriousness of intent within the library community.
