June 2012, by Matt Bollerman, Hauppauge Public Library

Digital content seems to be in the forefront of many in libraryland these days, and NYLA is trying to help. In February, a letter was sent to the New York State Attorney General asking them to look into the way digital content is being sold to libraries. A meeting is scheduled in mid-June with NYLA Members and the AG’s office. We are hoping members of the ALA Digital Content Working Group can attend as well.

The search for a new Executive Director continues. The Council met in May and heard a report from the Executive Committee on the first round of interviews that were undertaken. A second round of interviews with the entire Council is scheduled for mid-June. The hope is to offer someone the position by the end of June and have them begin by September 1.

The Annual Conference planning is well underway and the initial announcements should be going to press shortly. Please consider joining us in Saratoga Springs, November 7-10. Scores of great programs along with some full day CE events, and our annual events all add up to a wonderful opportunity to learn, grow, and network.

I had a great time attending the Third Annual Writers Hall of Fame Gala and Induction Ceremony on June 5 at the Princeton Club in New York City. Thanks to Rocco Staino and Ellen Rubin and the rest of the Empire Center for the Book committee members for putting this great event together.
