Beth Lathrop

Candidate for Councilor-at-Large (Academic/Special) 2019-2022

Director of Libraries, The Strong National Museum of Play

Since 2014, I have served as the Director of Libraries at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, where I oversee the Brian Sutton-Smith Library and Archives of Play – a multidisciplinary research repository devoted to the intellectual, social, and cultural history of play – and Grada Hopeman Gelser circulating library – one of only a handful of public library branches located in a museum in the nation. Prior to joining The Strong I worked for more than 15 years in public and academic libraries in Virginia, South Carolina, and New York in varied capacity: reference and instruction, collection development, serials, technical services, teen services, and administration. In seeking the office of Councilor-At-Large for Academic and Special Libraries, my goal is to bring the voices of librarians and support staff who work with special collections and archives as well as those who work in our state’s vibrant academic institutions to the NYLA Council.
