Joanne Koukoulas, Ph. D.
Candidate for Councilor-at-Large (School) 2019-2022
Library Media Specialist, South Salem Elementary School
Libraries are wonderful! As a resident in my community, a school librarian in a public school, and a researcher in academia~ libraries are central in my life. Libraries all have a unified central focus in books, services, resources, events and bringing forth community engagement. As a School Library counselor at large, it is important to bring these libraries together for common goals as well as enrich and improve current conditions in School Libraries across New York State and beyond.
If I am elected for this position, I promise to do my best to reach out and project a voice for School Library and our affiliated organizations. Some ways that I will be reaching out to you will include various social media channels to get feedback and promote everyone’s ideas and important views. I am always open to conversations and ideas that affect our libraries and will be communicating with our public and academic counterparts to improve library connections and goals.
My past experience includes membership roles, teaching, professional development and presenting at local, state and national library & technology conferences. I share my knowledge with my community, students, parents, teachers and administrators as a Google for Education Certified Trainer, Google Educator and Discovery Education Network Ambassador. My research area focus is School Library, Leadership and Technology.
