Lisa Kropp

Candidate for Councilor-at-Large (2021-25)

Director of Lindenhurst Memorial Library

In high school, my first job was at the public library as a Page. Other than 1.5 years working in a video store – my entire career has been in a school or public library. Since joining NYLA in 2003, I have been consistently involved in sections, roundtables and committee work, serving over the years on the YSS Board, the LAMS Board, and the newly formed Sustainability Round Table, as well as being a member of PLS, SCLA, RASD, and IFRT. I have presented at conferences on leadership topics, sustainability, and youth services best practices, and I always learn something from the audience participants to try at my own library! In my current role as Director of the Lindenhurst Memorial Library, I make sure the Library has a community voice by participating as an active member of the local Rotary, Kiwanis, and Chamber of Commerce associations.

Libraries are innovators and change agents in our local communities, and NYLA is an extension of that community. By running for Council, I will connect our diverse interests and workplaces of academic, school, and public libraries, and the communities we serve. I will continue vital advocacy work to ensure we receive the necessary funding to provide services in all communities. In today’s world, filled with uncertainty and trepidation, libraries continue to serve as pillars of leadership and resiliency, offering services, information, essential programs, and access to technology. If elected to Council, my aim will be to serve as the voice of the membership, bringing your new ideas and services to the forefront.
