 Reference and Adult Services

 The purpose of the Reference and Adult Services Section is to represent and promote the interests of librarians and information providers from all types of libraries who are concerned with the development of general and specialized reference, information and resource sharing services, and with the improvement of library services, materials, and programs for adults.  The Section provides opportunities for networking, continued professional development, and the addressing of issues of statewide concern to its members.


RASS Noted Author Luncheon
Colum McCann

Join RASS as we welcome Colum McCann to the Noted Author Luncheon.  Named Esquire magazine’s "Writer of the Year" in 2003, Colum is the author of last year’s international bestseller, Zoli.  The story of a Gypsy poet and intellectual, the Washington Post called Zoli, “beautifully conceived and wonderfully told…,” and the San Fransicsco Chronical said of the novel, “his prose is just plain gorgeous.” 
 
Colum is also the author of two collections of short stories and three other novels, including international best-sellers, This Side of Brightness and Dancer.  In addition, he has written for numerous publications including the Irish Times, Die Zeit, La Republicca, Paris Match, the New York Times, the Guardian and the Independent
 
His many awards and honors include a Pushcart Prize, the Rooney Prize, the Irish Independent Hughes and Hughes Novel of the Year 2003, and the 2002 Ireland Fund of Monaco Princess Grace Memorial Literary Award. He was recently inducted into the Hennessy Hall of Fame.   In 2004 Colum was a Fellow of the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers.  His short film "Everything in this Country Must," directed by Gary McKendry, was nominated for an Oscar in 2005.
 
Colum is currently working on a new novel, tentatively titled Utopia 74, as well as several screenplays.
