Ann Gibson Scholarship

Calling all future youth services librarians! It is time to apply for the Ann Gibson Scholarship. This scholarship is a $1,000 award given annually by the Youth Services Section to honor the memory of Ann Gibson, a storyteller, librarian, and teacher who touched the lives of many. If you are currently enrolled in an MLS program, have completed at least 18 credit hours, and are directing your studies toward youth services in a public or school library, don't delay! There is money available to assist you!

Notification: by September 1, 2009

2007 Winner: Gail J. Brown works in the Youth Services Department of Voorheesville Public Library. She is currently studying for her MLS degree at State University of NY at Albany with anticipated completion in fall 2009 or spring 2010.


YSS Spring Conference Scholarship

A conference scholarship, awarded to encourage continuing education in the field of youth services, is available for YSS/NYLA members who are current working library professionals, paraprofessionals, matriculated graduate library students, or others involved in fields related to youth services (storytelling, writing, illustrating.)

The scholarship is designed to cover accommodations and transportation costs for attending the Youth Services Section's Spring Conference.  The amount of each scholarship is not to exceed $250 and comes in the form of reimbursement for these expenses.  The recipient's registration fee (which includes breakfast and lunch the day of the conference) is waived.

The 2009 Youth Services Section’s Spring Conference will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009, at The Inn on the Lake, Canandaigua, NY.  Keynote speakers will be Linda Sue Park and Vivian Vande Velde.
