The Honorable George E. Pataki
Governor of the State of New York
Executive Chamber, The Capitol
Albany, NY 12224

Dear Governor Pataki,

As a library user and a registered voter, I am writing to urge you to support the New York Library Association's goal of more State funding for New York's libraries. I understand how important libraries are to the economy, education, and the people of New York State. The issue of state aid to libraries will be important to me when evaluating candidates for the next election.

The new century brings greater challenges to our public libraries. But State funding has not kept pace, and local budgets are stretched to their limits. Public libraries are already operating with far fewer resources than they need to adequately provide for the information needs of New Yorkers.

Libraries must have more State funding so they can provide Internet technology, extended hours, literacy programs, up-to-date print and digital collections, and safe and adequate buildings. New York's libraries need a statewide investment to bring them up to the standards other states have already achieved. Please restore New York as a library leader among the states.

Sincerely,

Your Name Here
