Advocacy

Crisis Toolkit

If you are here, you must be in search of some type of help. Whether your job, jobs of others around you or programming to your building is in jeopardy, you have come to the right place.

SLMS is here to help you. Contact the following people:

Your NYSUT local.  You are part of the union, they have to be on the front lines for you!

  1. Contact your School Library System Coordinator.
  2. Contact the SLMS President.
  3. Your regional representative and local affiliate.  Don't know what affiliate you belong to? Click here

Know that you are not alone and learn from others - check out our stories and ideas from "the trenches".  Many of these ideas come from Library Media Specialist who have been through these problems and found some success.

Advocacy

SLMS Summer Retreat: much needed information on advocating for your school library was shared at the leadership retreat in 2004. Many people have asked that the handouts and PowerPoint presentations be placed on the website for their use. Click here to access them.

David Loertscher's advocacy site: the purpose of this site is to provide resources for School Library Media Specialists engaged in advocacy efforts - some of those immediate, but most effective only over a long period of time.
