NYLA/ProQuest Intellectual Freedom Award

The NYLA/ProQuest Intellectual Freedom Award is given to an individual or library for outstanding contribution to the principles of intellectual freedom in New York State. It is awarded at the annual NYLA Conference.

Nominees can be individuals or groups in New York State who have met and resisted attempts at censorship or have otherwise furthered the cause of intellectual freedom. Those submitting names for consideration for this award should provide the following information about the nominee:

  • duration of the nominee’s support of intellectual freedom; incidents that are especially noteworthy;
  • support from local and state organizations, community members, and others;
  • relevant supportive data such as newspaper articles, letters of commendation, etc.;
  • names, addresses, and phone numbers of two people who will be contacted to provide evidence and support for the nomination.

Please note that members of NYLA’s Intellectual Freedom Committee are not eligible for this award.
